RecycleBank's Top 10 Ways to Green Your Valentine's Day
Tips courtesy of RecycleBank
Valentine’s Day is all about flowers, chocolates and cards, but how can you spoil the special someone in your life and be eco-conscious at the same time? RecycleBank has come up with 10 tips for greening your Valentine’s Day that will help set the mood while saving the planet!
Here are RecycleBank’s 10 romantic ways to “green” your Valentine’s Day:
1. Set your morning in motion by sharing a pot of fairly traded and organically grown coffee. After all, you will want to keep the night young.
2. Since Valentine’s Day lands on Saturday, skip the power shower and enjoy a soak for two… and save water that way.
3. Get enlightened this year with his and hers, or hers and hers, or his and his (well you get the point) CFL’s. While saving tons of energy, they last up to 8 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.
4. A rose is a rose is a rose…but is it fairly traded—and how far did it travel to get to your door? There is an abundance of organic, veriflora certified and fairly traded floral options, all perfect gifts.
5. Sweets for your sweetie? Organic and fairly traded cocoa options are sure to send that extra message of sincerity.
6. On this holiday, over one billion cards are sent worldwide. Translation: Save the Trees! Create your own card from recycled goods in your home. After all, it’s not the card, but the sentiment that counts.
7. Enjoy the outdoors. Make a snow-person together. Walk on the beach. Take a hike. Picnic in front of a gorgeous sunset. Or just lie on your backs and count the stars. It’s totally carbon free, healthy and romantic.
8. Make a candlelit homemade dinner for two. There is nothing greener than going local, so stop at your local farmers’ market and buy fresh and organic goodies.
9. Forget red or white; go for a bottle of “green” wine. There’s organic wine for whatever kind of mood you’re in… from Shiraz to chardonnay.
10. To end the night, choose organic cotton, bamboo and linen sheets, towels, duvets and comforters.
RecycleBank is a rewards program that motivates people to recycle by quickly and easily measuring the amount of material each home recycles and then converting that activity into RecycleBank Points that can be used at hundreds of local and national rewards partners.

Get Started on Your Eco-Frienldy Valentine's Day Shopping with Eco-Undies and Lingerie
Valentine's Day is less than a month away, have you made any plans yet?
Have you considered making it a green Valentine's Day? It is easier than you think to go eco-friendly for this romantic day.
Through the next couple weeks I'll be adding green product reviews, links and suggestions to help you have a fabulously green and eco-romantic Valentine's Day.
Here are some eco-underwear and lingerie websites to get you started on your green romance research.
It's a shame, sustainable lingerie is still not extremely popular and most of the really fab places are in the UK, not here in the US.
I would love to see more eco-friendly lingerie choices that are sexier, available in the US and a little easier on the pocketbook.
At least there are eco-options, some is better than none. Enjoy shopping.
Enamore
A UK line of super sexy, eco-friendly lingerie made from hemp, silk, soy and more. Their eco-sexy lineup is inspired by vintage and French glamour
Eco-Boudoir
A London based eco-lingerie company that ships worldwide. Their lingerie is made from a variety of sustainable fabrics like hemp, bamboo, and silk
Urban Fox
Discouraged with the availability of eco-undies in the US they decided to make their own from bamboo and organic cotton
The Oko Box
The Oko Box carries a variety of clothing and lingerie from many eco-conscious designers including Enamore.
Faeries Dance
Hemp, bamboo and organic clothing and intimate apparel for women
Good Humans
Small selection of undies, nothing extravagant
Eco Body Wear
Another small selection of eco-undies
g=9.8
This French company has some of the sexiest sustainable lingerie available, made from pine tree needles and scraps. Who knew trees could be so sexy? Available in the US at Noblivity and Nimli
Green Knickers
A UK store which sells green undies.
GAIAM
Has some basic organic cotton undies but nothing too sexy.

Ideal Favors Offers Biodegradable Vases and Plantable Favors

Ideal Favors has something truly remarkable for the eco-bride: "contemporary looking vases that are made 100% from rice hulls and contain absolutely no harmful chemicals. In short, these little vases are about as eco-friendly as you can get!"
"Each vase will last up to five years, and can literally be scratched into a dust or buried to nourish the earth." They are completely biodegradable. "These vases are light and have a hard shell making them very durable. Each vase comes with a matching saucer."
Wow. This is something I had not come across before. Super chic and very eco-friendly and amazingly beautiful. Who would have thought biodegradable could be so stylish.
Ideal Favors also offers plantable wedding favors and note cards. And they are adding natural muslin favor bags to their store as well.

Scandle Body Massage Candles

"A candle never felt so good"
They got that right. Scandle Candles are eco-luxurious sensual delights.
Picture it, a romantic evening filled with eco-friendly candlelight, then you and your special someone decide to get a little closer, how about a massage - but what...no massage oil? No worries. Pour the Scandle Candle on your lover for a eco-erotic massage like nothing you've ever experienced before.
I bet you're thinking ouch, that's got to be hot.
Nope. Scandles burn at only two degrees above body temperature, perfect for a little warmth without feeling the burn.
These wonderful candles are perfect for honeymoons or any romantic occasion, like Valentine's Day that's coming up soon.
Not only are they perfect for those eco-romantic evenings but they make great gifts as well.
Anyone out there planning a green bridal shower or bachelorette party? Scandle Candles would make great game prizes or goodie bag fillers.

A Real Green Wedding in Indiana

These beautiful photos were taken by green photographer Anne Ruthmann.
The wedding was held in Zionsville, Indiana at Traders Point Creamery, an organic creamery and dairy farm, that explains the cow.
The setting is absolutely beautiful. Trader's Point was even on an episode of Get Fresh with Sara Snow.
The couple Jessica and Ben, didn't set out trying to have a green wedding but they ended with a more eco-friendly wedding than most have.
The wedding and reception were both held at Trader's Point (which is a beautiful natural setting, and an organic creamery), the menu was entirely organic, the flowers were seasonal and mostly locally grown, and most of their entertainment was live and unplugged. And the photographer, Anne Ruthmann, is a known greenie.
Sounds like a fabulously green wedding to me.
These few photos do not do justice to the expanse of beauty and nature that Trader's Point offers.
And the flowers...I love the mixture of fruits, vegetables and flowers...so lively and so very autumn. They were created by Bokay Florist.
The wedding was held in October of 2006. The fall colors are everywhere. In one photo snapped by Ruthmann you can see the leaves swirling around the wedding location. Stunning photo and great capture. I wish I would have known Anne back when I got married, she's a great photographer.
And let's not forget that yummy looking (organic) food, it was made by The Juniper Spoon. Makes my stomach growl just looking at it.
This shows a green wedding can be stylish, elegant and earth friendly at the same time, even without trying.
Are you in Indiana? Make sure you check out my green wedding article in January's edition of Indiana Living Green, Say "I Do" to Green Weddings.

New Year Coming Soon
Almost a new year, wow, this year has went by so fast.
The Green Bride Giveaway was a success, I hope the winners enjoy their prize packs.
The Everything Green Wedding Book: Plan an elegant, affordable, earth-friendly wedding (Everything Series)
is now on sale in book stores everywhere including Amazon and tons of others.
You know- I still have not been to a book store to actually see it for sale though. Isn't that crazy?I've been so busy with the holidays I have not been to the local Borders or Barnes and Noble. The day it came out my husband went to several book stores just to see it. He is my biggest fan, I love it.
I'll get there soon, maybe this weekend. I don't know, I have a list of work ten miles long. I am hoping 2009 brings more book deals. I have several proposals I am working on (three green ones), including another green wedding title only this one is more a DIY style. Keep your fingers crossed that 2009 will be a great year.
