The Wedding Lens is a photo sharing site specifically designed for weddings. They are relatively new and they are trying to help couples make their weddings a bit greener while collecting more photo memories.
They are a replacement for the plastic disposable wedding cameras that many people use at weddings to get guests to take photos. Disposable cameras are not very "green", even the ones that are recyclable or reusable need plastic to be made, they take up a lot of cost and resources. Plus the photos that are taken all need to be printed, many of which are not photos the couple generally want. That all adds up to a lot of waste.
The Wedding Lens works this way:
- The bride and groom can customize a FREE or premium ($49.95) album with their relevant details
- Then they upload the email addresses of their guests.
- About a week before the wedding, The Wedding Lens sends their guests an email encouraging them to bring a digital camera to the wedding to take plenty of photos.
- The day after the wedding The Wedding Lens sends out another email reminding the guests to upload all of the cool photos they took of the bride and groom to their album. Average albums get about 500 to 600 photos and some get as many as 1200.
